It’s OK to Take a Break When You Feel Stagnant

A couple of months ago, I vowed to myself for making a change in my life and will not settle for mediocrity. So I’ve read/listen to lots of self-development books and podcasts, in hopes of becoming a better person. I have even started a blog, posting articles and video regularly on Medium and LinkedIn, in hopes of sharing what I’ve learned in my journey with everyone.

I was really motivated back then, writing long articles and filming videos consistently alongside a full-time job. There are millions of people giving up in their first few months if not weeks, but I’m not one of them. I knew I could make it.

But my motivation can only push me this far — I stopped creating content two weeks ago.

Now, it might sound like I’m making excuses, but I do have a few legit reasons for me to take a break, as quite a lot happened to me last month.

  • Broke up with my girlfriend.
  • Got promoted at work, and that means I had more responsibility for my job.
  • Need to do a lot of DIY work for my newly bought property.

I feel overwhelmed, and I believe I’m not in the mood of writing. After some careful consideration, I have decided to stop writing for a bit.

It’s not an easy decision to make, because many said it’s just writer’s block, and the only way to get over is to keep writing.

But is that true?

By not writing anything for two weeks, I feel refreshed and grateful. Taking sometimes off certainly is one great approach when we feel stagnate.

Are you working hard just for the record?

To become successful online, persistent is the key. I thought the idea is to keep showing up and produce content, then people will notice me.

It might feel like I’m boasting, but I’m proud of myself being able to stick to my routine for creating valuable content for several months.

I felt my ego is getting my way.

As a high performer, I shouldn’t take a break, or else I’ll miss the schedule I set to myself. I feel guilty for not keeping myself accountable. Plus I don’t want to break my streak.
